When you hear "that kind of sound", or find that the temperature of the hydraulic oil is too high, or the integrity of the equipment is not up to standard, it is always a bad day. When any of these things happen and the problem is to be completely solved, there are many things to consider when choosing the repair, modification or remanufacturing of hydraulic equipment.
1) One of the most pressing considerations is time.
In most cases, time is the main factor in the decision, because the phrase "time is money" is always more true than downtime and stopping production. Buying and installing new replacement parts seems to be the most convenient way to get the equipment up and running again. However, the lead time for purchasing new replacement parts may vary from part to part, because some parts must be manufactured, and then you must consider the delivery time. Rebuilding parts usually takes less time than buying new replacement parts.
2) The second major consideration is cost.
If you plan to buy new replacement parts, consider all the costs involved. This includes not only the actual parts and transportation costs, but also the time and labor required to remove the faulty parts from the machine and install the refurbished parts, as well as the lost production costs. Rebuilding and remanufacturing are typically faster and less costly than buying new replacement parts. Almost every hydraulic equipment part can be replaced or repaired, and when the repair cost is less than 60-70% of the price of the new part, the repair is reasonable.
3) If you choose a repair, refurbishment or remanufacturing plan, please do a good analysis and make sure that the company engaged in this work is competent.
To properly diagnose, reconstruct and test hydraulic equipment requires experience and professional skills. Ask if all parts meet OEM specifications and if the parts are made of original metal. Choosing a company with ISO certification ensures that the company is committed to strict quality standards.
4) During the hydraulic maintenance process, the equipment will be disassembled and thoroughly cleaned for inspection.
All critical dimensions and surfaces will be inspected and measured. Seals, springs, washers and gaskets will be replaced because they are not expensive items, but the overall work will benefit from their replacement. Bearings will be replaced during warranty. If there is contamination, keep the piston pump surface within a suitable tolerance and grind it. If the proper tolerances cannot be achieved, the technician may need to remanufacture or replace the internal parts. These parts may include a rotating barrel, a piston, a housing, a cover, a safety valve, a controller and a replenishment pump.
5) The source of repair/remanufactured parts is also an important consideration.
Ask if the parts are purchased from the original hydraulic OEM or if they are aftermarket parts. Although OEM parts may be preferred, they may not be readily available and may result in longer downtime. Offshore companies provide many aftermarket parts, and the quality of these parts can vary greatly.
Finally, testing and calibration are key activities to ensure that any repair/rebuild/remanufacture is done properly. Today's hydraulic systems are more complex than in the past. Their systems operate at higher hydraulic pressures and have integrated electronics, digital control and complex software. Thus, experienced and skilled technicians are required to accurately perform the testing and calibration. The technician also needs to have the right equipment. Test and calibration capabilities are another important consideration when determining which repair/refurbishment/remanufacturing facility to choose.
